Chopard has partnered with the Milan-based bodywork specialist Zagato to create a sleek and technical Mille Miglia Zagato Chronograph limited edition wristwatch.
Chopard, the official timekeeper of the Mille Miglia for no less than 25 years, and Zagato, an independent coachbuilding company and a design center, are sharing the same passion for classic cars and the Mille Miglia. Their appetite for luxury and sports-driven mechanical engineering has inspired the first joint effort between two companies – the Chopard Mille Miglia Zagato Chronograph. The watch has undergone the exclusive Zagato personalization process, while the self-winding chronograph movement with date and dual-time displays was chosen by Chopard.
Chopard Mille Miglia-Zagato Chronograph is a COSC-certified timepiece crafted from stainless steel and offered in 42,5mm case-diameter version. The housing has undergone a DLC coating treatment, which improves its scratch-resistance and gives a nice, refined look to the steel. The case is topped with a bezel, which comes in two variations: an all-black bezel and a rose-gold bezel featuring a red insert with 24-hour dual-time graduation. On the inside, the watch uses a mechanical self-winding chronograph movement that beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour. The movement offers 46 hours of power reserve, and it is protected against the ingress of water to up to 50 meters.
The details of the exterior are a result of mutual endeavor. As you can see on the pictures, the start/stop chronograph pusher is paired with the color of the bezel, and it is either black or rose gold in color. A red lacquered tip of the chronograph hand evokes both Zagato's and Mlle Miglia's signature color, while the strap reminds of the upholstery work of the Milanese brand. The leather strap features the bright red stitching, which is a classic Zagato signature detail. The dual-tone dial, which can be Silver-toned or black, reveals the Z-pattern, created by endless repetitions of the Zagato brand's insignia, which is the motif that also adorns the crown of the chronograph. In addition to central hours and minutes, the dial provides a stage for the small seconds at 9 o'clock, the 30-minute counter at 12 o’clock, 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, and a date window at 3 o’clock.
Chopard Mille Miglia-Zagato Chronograph is issued in a special limited series that comprises of only 500 pieces. Two different versions are available: the black DLC-coated steel version and the two-tone version with an 18-carat rose gold finish. Both watches feature a solid DLC-coated steel back with 1000 Miglia arrow logo and Zagato inscription.
