Chopard, the Official Timing Partner of Porsche Motorsport LMP1 Team, will once again support the German team for the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2017. To honor the occasion, Chopard presents the exclusive Superfast Power Control Porsche 919 HF Edition, produced in a 100-piece limited series.
The special new timepiece, powered by a new Chopard movement, the high-frequency Caliber 01.11-M, is announced as the embodiment of pure performance and a tribute to Chopard’s partner Porsche Motorsport’s success in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). The watch picking up the aesthetic design codes from two Porsche 919 Hybrid cars competing in the LMP1 category. The virtues of these racing machines have been transposed into an all-back high-frequency chronometer:
- The car chassis is made of light and rigid aluminum and carbon fiber composite, while the watch case is made from ultra-lightweight bead-blasted titanium.
- The Porsche 919 is powered by a 2-liter, 400hp V4 turbo engine, coupled with a 500hp electric engine, while the caliber 01.11-M also uses two generations of materials: of brass and steel, with a silicon oxide escapement at its heart.
- The turbochargers of the racing cars are maintained at optimal RPM by an electric engine, thus enabling maximum acceleration thrust. Similarly, Chopard caliber 01.11-M beats at the ultra-high frequency of 8Hz (57,600 vibrations per hour) that Chopard is the only watchmaker to master and use.
- Porsche 919 cars are energy efficient. They consume 30% less fuel while guaranteeing the same intensity and performance as previous models. The Superfast Power Control Porsche 919 HF Edition ensures no less than 60 hours of power reserve, despite its energy-consuming high frequency that would normally have caused reduced autonomy.
The Superfast Power Control Porsche 919 HF Edition features a black-PVD coated titanium case that measures 45mm in diameter. Its wide bezel is secured by eight black PVD-treated steel screws. The broad, oversized hands have been cut-out to make the watch as lighter as possible, without compromising on legibility. The minute scale, encircling the dial, is graduated with white Arabic numerals. The same contrasting shade is used for the hour-markers, the date and the power-reserve indicator.
The matte black dial features four distinctive signatures: the Chopard logo in baton-type lettering, the Chronometer inscription; the letter H with an arrow sign characterizing Chopard high-frequency watches; and the white-on-red number 919, a nod to the Porsche 919 Hybrid. The watch is mounted on a smooth rubber strap modeled after the huge slick tires of the 919.
