De Bethune DB25L Milky Way

Marina Milojević | 01.26.17 | 12:07 AM

The house of De Bethune introduces the gorgeous new timepiece that captures the dazzling beauty of the heavens above on a heat blue titanium dial. This time, De Bethune has found inspiration in the enigmatic immensity of the Milky Way. The vast galaxy, which appears as a band of light seen in the nocturnal sky, is formed from stars, but De Bethune Manufacture's craftsmen have managed to encapsulate its essence in gold and glass.

De Bethune DB25L Milky Way

The dial of this magnificent timepiece is crafted from blued and polished titanium. The mystical blue mirror is created using the technique of heat coloring. In reaction to flames, and under the right conditions, the dial develops a rich blue oxide layer that appears brightly colored. The unique blue oxide serves as a perfect backdrop for the captive stars, set one by one by hand. Milky Way patterns on De Bethune’s star-studded sky are produced by micro laser striking, and gilded with 24 carats gold leafs.

The case, crafted from rare and precious platinum and set with 66 baguette-cut diamonds, measures 46mm in diameter. Within its 11.3mm thick body, the case houses the Swiss manually-wound De Bethune caliber DB2105v2. The movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and comes with a 6-day power reserve. In addition to hours and minutes, the caliber also drives the blued steel and platinum spherical moon phase indicator, appearing at 12 o’clock.

The case features integrated hollowed lugs, and double anti-reflective-coated sapphire crystals. A power reserve indicator appears on the open case-back in polished white gold. On the picture above you can see its delta shaped bridge and base plate with a high-shine mirror finish, which is extremely hard to obtain. The watch is mounted on an extra-supple alligator leather strap with an ardillon buckle in platinum.

De Bethune DB25L Milky Way, reference number DB25JLPS3V2, retails at 225,000 CHF (tax excluded).

De Bethune debuts the DB25 Imperial Fountain, which is a new special edition set comprising of 12 timepieces

This collection is inspired by the bronze zodiac animal heads which once adorned the fountain in the famous Old Summer Place (Yuanming Yuan) outside the Bejing in China. Every day at noon water would have sprouted from the mouths of the 12 zodiac animals, to tell the current time. The Qianlong emperor was so captivated by water fountains, mazes and European-sty...
