Marina Milojević | 11.07.18 | 01:40 PM

At the beginning of this year, for the SIHH 2018 watch salon, De Bethune introduced a new variation of its well-known DB28 model – the DB28 Steel Wheels. This extraordinary men’s timepiece has been preselected as one of the finalists of this year’s Grand Prix d'Horlogerie Geneve (GPHG) in the Men’s watch category. This modern, highly technical and amazingly finished timepiece is keeping up with the DB28’s recognizable DNA, while providing a new artistic expression in décor of its in-house movement.

The core of the watch, including its emblematic delta-shaped triangular bridge, is now fully openworked to reveal the wheels and pinions. The gear train and twin barrels are also visible, while the wheels underneath have been redesigned for a more technical, contemporary look. Like all previous editions of the DB28, the Steel Wheels edition exposes its high-performance balance-wheel, which is now made of titanium with white gold inserts. The balance-wheel is visible unearth the polished bridge.

The hands of the watch have also been redesigned. The hour hand is made out of sapphire crystal with a chamfered and blued frame, while the slender minute hand is hand polished and flame blued. The spherical moon indication, positioned at 6 o’clock, is made of palladium and set against a nightly backdrop in flamed blue steel. It rotates on its axis with such accuracy that it will take 122 years to accumulate a one-day discrepancy.

The watch face is embraced by the ratcheted chapter ring, which is said to be inspired by gear-wheel toothing. The flame blued ring is punctuated by 12 polished spheres marking the hours.

The DB28 Steel Wheels is powered by a manual-winding mechanical movement, Caliber DB2115V4, beating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The movement is equipped with a double self-regulating barrel ensuring a six-day power reserve. It also features a signature De Bethune balance-spring with flat terminal curve, a silicon escape-wheel, and a triple pare-chute shock-absorbing system.
