DeWitt X-Watch - Only Watch 2011

Marina Milojević | 06.10.11 | 01:41 AM

Montres DeWitt unveils their newest Concept Watch No 3: X-WATCH, made especially for Only Watch 2011 Charity Auction in favor of research programs on the Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

This is a lively and playful piece, designed in the manner of reversible watches. DeWitt X-Watch features “bonnet” in the shape of an “X” that partly covers the face of the watch. Four push-pieces, positioned at the upper and lower edge of the case, are used to separate the middle and slowly open up to reveal a face of a watch. Only in this position the wearer can flip over the case and lock it up again. However, the watch will continue to serve its inner purpose even when the bonnet is in the closed position, and will remain completely readable.

The core of this watch beats with DeWitt’s third in-house manufactured movement - Calibre DW 8046. This powerful reversible movement provides several complications: bi-retrograde hours and minutes, tourbillon, chronograph and patented Automatic Sequential Winding (A.S.W.). The movement is composed of 535 individual parts and offers between 67 and 72 hours of power reserve.

The round-shaped case is made in Grade 5 Titanium and boasts traditional DeWitt imperial columns on the bezel. It has no less than 49 millimeters in diameter, being 21.80 millimeters thick. The dial has a rhodium plated and polished decoration, shaped like an hourglass. At the upper portion, it features a 120-degree power reserve indicator. The lower section reveals a tourbillon, with a small seconds hand attached to its cage. Left and right from the center of the watch are hours and minutes, both read from the bottom to top. When the bonnet is closed, every detail still remains visible.

But, when we flip the dial on the lower side – there is a hidden face: a skeleton chronograph. It has a disk seconds indication and a triple-arm minutes hand covering a 30 minute time-span on three levels. At the top of the dial, there is small seconds counter. Minutes are printed on the sapphire glass, on the lower part of the dial, positioned on three levels. Triple-armed hand, topped with small disks on each tip, covers the three 10-minute levels per cycle. The rotor has beautiful rose gold finishes and truly looks impressive.

Ahead of the SIHH 2018 salon in Geneve, the house of DeWitt presents the Academia Endless Drive, equipped with a rotating endless screw that can be admired at the center of the dial. Endless screw, an obvious nod to the world of automotive mechanics, is fixed so that it can’t move longitudinally as it rotates. Instead, this stationary screw forces the mechanical part to advance. As explained by DeWitt’s founder Count Jérôme de Witt, the curves of the screw in unidirectional movement symbolize irreversible rotation, which is, by itself, an alleg...

The DeWitt Academia Mathematical is the laureate watch in the category «Design» at the WatchFair Luxembourg 2016.

The DeWitt Academia Mathematical, a watch introduced at BaselWorld 2015, is DeWitt’s fourth concept watch. This imaginative automatic timepiece is inspired by historical mystery watches, on which certain components are hidden from the eye of the observer, so it appears like hands are floating freely above the dial, without any obvious connection to the movement. On the mystery watches, the movement is transmitted to the hands through an invisible wheel, which is typically made of transparent sapphire. In its modern-day variant, the mystery w...
