Grand Seiko’s Sport Collection welcomes its first 9F Quartz GMT this fall. Unlike many other GMT watches, which are obviously trending this season, Grand Seiko's introduces a trio of high-precision but noticeably more affordable in-house produced sport watches equipped with the latest iteration of the 9F quartz movement. Of the three new references, the SBGN001 is the 25th Anniversary limited edition that celebrates the 25th birthday of Grand Seiko’s Caliber 9F. Created in 1993, the iconic quartz family now welcomes the first ever Grand Seiko 9F quartz GMT caliber, the Caliber 9F86, based upon the original 9F but with an added GMT function.
Caliber 9F86 debuts in one limited edition and two permanent creations in the Grand Seiko Sport Collection. A limited edition to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Caliber 9F features a metallic charcoal dial with unique pattern based on the traditional Quartz symbol. A five-pointed star at 6 o’clock symbolizes Grand Seiko’s special level accuracy, which alludes to the SBGN001’s high level of adjustment and accuracy to within an amazing 5 seconds a year!
The watch features a 24-hour GMT hand and an independently adjustable hour hand. The outer rim of the dial, from three o’clock to nine, is highlighted in bright yellow to allow the wearer to see at a glance whether the GMT hand indicates AM or PM.
In addition to the limited editions, Grand Seiko 9F Quartz GMT wil be released in two permanent editions – with blue or black dials. Characterized by simple and elegant but powerful design, the three-dimensional dials of these watches are framed with a two-tone ring that allows the AM or PM time to be read instantly. The hour markers, hour, minute, and GMT hands are coated in Lumibrite, a luminescent material that delivers improved legibility in low light conditions. The permanent editions are a little bit less precise, ensuring accuracy within ±10 seconds per year.
The limited edition Grand Seiko 9F Quartz GMT is available in 800 pieces worldwide, and will be available at select markets from October 2018. The watch is priced at €3,600. Two permanent editions, SBGN003 and SBGN005, will be released somewhere in January 2019. The price for these standard editions is €3,200. - grand-seiko.com
