Introducing the Laurent Ferrier Galet Square for Only Watch 2015

For the third consecutive year, the house of Laurent Ferrier takes part in the Only Watch charity event, which takes place on November 7th 2015. The charity auction, which is organized each year under the patronage of HSH Prince Albert II, presents exclusive creations from 40 of the world’s most renowned watch manufactures. Laurent Ferrier, a Geneva-born watchmaker and a passionate motorsports enthusiast, is also among this year’s exhibitors. Ferrier presents an original edition of the Galet Square timepiece, which is powered by the micro-rotor movement with “échappement naturel.”

The échappement naturel was the invention of Abraham Louis Breguet, which allows the escapement to run without any need for lubrication. The watch is powered by the self-winding FBN Calibre 229.01, which is equipped with a unidirectional pawl-fitted micro-rotor. Its silicon escapement has a double direct impulse on the balance, which is Laurent Ferrier’s own invention. The system gives two impulses to the balance per oscillation, requiring two escape-wheels and a specially designed lever. The modernized system, combined with contemporary materials, maximizes the resulting energy, and guarantees a three-day power reserve. A high amplitude of the balance also means that the less mechanical force is necessary to wind the barrel spring, thereby optimizing movement.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Square for Only Watch 2015

The Only Watch 2015 edition of Laurent Ferrier’s Galet Square model features a dual-tone silver décor dial, inspired by the models of the late 1930’s. The outer circle of the dial is circular satin-brushed, while the central zone features a vertical satin-brush finish. The exceptional décor gives it a unique blend of shades and textures, while the space is marked out with slender transferred circle and curved hour markers. The small seconds dial is nestled at 6 o’clock position, while the “Only Watch 2015” inscription appears on the place that is traditionally reserved for the word “Swiss.”

The Laurent Ferrier Galet Square for Only Watch 2015 comes in a unique new case, which was officially presented at BaselWorld 2015. Its principal design codes are still based on the original Galet, but the case is a little bit more cushion-shaped, to assert a stronger presence on the wrist. The case measures 41 x 41 mm, and it features a completely new straight lugs with gold half spheres. The watch is fitted with a ball-shaped winding-crown, and it features a snap-on case-back, which also protects the movement from water to a depth of 30 meters.

The Laurent Ferrier Galet Square for Only Watch 2015 is powered by automatic movement beating at a frequency of 21,600 vph. The watch is mounted on a blue leather strap with either a pin buckle or a double-blade folding clasp in stainless steel. This unique model will be auctioned in Geneva, on November 7th Prior the auction, the watch will be showcased on a traveling exhibition in Monaco, Hong Kong, Beijing, New York and London.
