In the search for inspiration, the house of Longines regularly revisits its historic collection, which serves as a basis for the creation of many new models, and in particular those of the Heritage collection. Today, the brand unveils the latest of its vintage-inspired timepieces, the Longines Heritage Skin Diver Watch.
The Skin Diver is not your regular old-school diving watch, it is a piece inspired by Longines’ first ever diver, a 1956 timepiece named Nautilus Skin Diver. The iconic diver, that was introduced at a time when water sports were becoming more and more popular and that helped establish Longines’ international reach, arrives in its modern day reinterpretation, packed with high-performing, contemporary technical features.
The Longines Skin Diver Watch preserves the spirit and sober aesthetic of the original model, while benefiting from a number of modern day tweaks. For example, the size of the stainless steel case has been increased from 40mm to 42mm. Thanks to a screwed-in crown and case-back, it now offers no less than 300 meters of water resistance. Instead of a mineral glass, the dial is protected with a hard and scratch-resistant sapphire.
The black grained dial features slim, elongated indexes, oversized hands, and four Arabic numerals coated with aux-aged beige Super Luminova. The watch face is framed by a unidirectional bezel coated with black PDV, enhanced with indexes and dotted markers. A luminescent triangle serves as the main indicator for calculating immersion time. Finally, just like the original model, the back of the Skin Diver Watch features a stamped logo illustrating a diver.
The movement inside is the automatic L888 calibre (base ETA A31.L01), which is produced exclusively for Longines and runs at a rate of 25,200 vph. Its functions include the hours, the minutes, the seconds, and a remarkable power reserve of 65 hours.
The Longines Skin Diver Watch, reference L2.822.4.56.2/6/9, is available on a black rubber strap with a crisscrossed finish, a Milanese-style steel bracelet, or a natural brown leather strap. The watch comes with a price tag of $2,600. For more information, please visit longines.com.
