The house of Longines has introduced a new model to its Heritage collection. The famous Swiss watchmaker has, once again, taken inspiration from its rich history and its notable ties with the world of aeronautics. The exceptional new chronograph, Longines Avigation Watch Type A-7 1935, pays homage to the pioneers of aviation, honoring the ground-breaking pilot Charles Lindbergh. Lindbergh was the first pilot to cross the Atlantic solo, which is an achievement celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2017.
The Longines Avigation Watch Type A-7 1935 is a modern-day replica of the Type A7 watches that Longines provided to American army pilots in 1935. This elegant timepiece, distinguished by its vintage style and superior performance and precision, is tailored to the meet demands of the most discerning of aviators. The most prominent feature of the model is its striking angled dial, which is inclined at 40° to the right to allow the pilots to read the indices without having to let go of the control yoke. The white lacquered dial reveals 12 large honey-colored Arabic numerals and a black-colored train track chapter ring.
Original 1935 Longines Type A-7 Avigation Hack Watch Chronograph U.S. Army A.C
Developed for the watch to be worn on the inside of the wrist, the case features an oversized crown and integrated monopusher chronograph control, ensuring that the chronograph function can be easily stopped or triggered even when a pilot is wearing gloves.
The Longines Avigation Watch Type A-7 1935 is featured in a 47mm stainless steel case, which accommodates a self-winding L788.2 calibre. This column wheel movement, base ETA A08.L11, is exclusively developed for Longines, and it enables full control of the chronograph functions by pressing the push-piece embedded in the fluted crown. The 27-jewel movement beats at a frequency of 28’800 alternations per hour, providing 54 hours of power reserve.
Longines Avigation Watch Type A-7 1935, reference number L2.812.4.23.2/4, is water resistant to 30 meters. The watch is mounted on a brown alligator strap with stainless steel buckle, and it retails at $2,050. Longines.com
