Louis Moinet’s “Memoris Red Eclipse”: an exceptional timepiece – shortlisted for the GPHG unveiled at a unique event.
On the occasion of the eclipse of the Moon, which occurred on September 16, the house of Louis Moinet has organized an exceptional astronomy event entitled “200 years in 24 hours,” at the famous Neuchâtel Observatory. This was the perfect opportunity to pay tribute to Louis Moinet’s anthology timepiece, Memoris Red Eclipse, by unveiling an extremely small limited edition of 12 fully hand-engraved watches. This extraordinary watch has also been shortlisted for the prestigious Geneva Grand Prix d’Horlogerie, in the Chronograph category.
This year Ateliers Louis Moinet marks 200th anniversary of the invention of the chronograph. It was in 1816 that Louis Moinet invented his Compteur de Tierces, the world’s chronograph for use in tracking astronomical objects. The exceptional event, held a couple of days ago, was organized to honor the founder of the brand, observe the eclipse of the moon, and celebrate this special anniversary. In tribute to the astronomical feats of Louis Moinet, the brand unveiled the very special edition of its Memoris Red Eclipse, distinguished by a red moon in gold-leaf enamel on its oscillating weight. The bridges and bezel of the watch are decorated with unique hand-made engravings, making each piece from this limited series one-of-a-kind.
The prestige new version of Louis Moinet Memoris Red Eclipse timepiece is crafted from 18-karat white gold, and it comes in original Louis Moinet case composed of 52 pieces, a two-part bezel, and 6 screws. The large, striking case, measuring 46mm in diameter, is fully hand-engraved and depicting the theme of the lunar eclipse. The movement, which is visible through a sapphire crystal glass is also hand-engraved using traditional decorative techniques. As explained by the Maison, the special beveling décor, crafted using a traditional rose engine, creates a spectacular effect that makes the stars on the background of the movement twinkle in countless ways, depending on the angle at which they are viewed. Fixed graver process and hand-painting lights up the night.
This monopusher chronograph with column wheel features hours and minutes in a separate off-centered dial, at 6 o’clock position. The seconds are shown at 9 o’clock, 60-second chronograph via central hand, and 30-chronograph in a counter at 3 o’clock position. For this special 200th anniversary collection, the dial is made from enamel, and it features “Gouttes de Rosée” dew-drop hands, blue-tinted with luminous coating.
The famous Memoris is powered by the 302-component LM54 caliber, designed and manufactured by Louis Moinet. It beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides around 48 hours of power reserve. The watch is mounted on a hand-sewn Louisiana alligator leather strap with alligator lining and a folding clasp. For more information, please visit louismoinet.com.
