Panerai Luminor Submersible Left-Handed Titano PAM569

Marina Milojević | 07.30.14 | 12:14 PM

Panerai has finally launched the much awaited Submersible Left-Handed Titano, one of the watches announced earlier this year, at the SIHH 2014 exhibition.

As its name suggests, the new Officine Panerai Luminor Submersible Left-Handed Titano is made of brushed titanium, which is one of the best materials for diving watches due to its exceptional resistance to salt water and wide range of acids, alkalis, natural waters and industrial chemical products. Titanium is also very light and extremely sturdy, having the same strength as steel but being about 40% lighter. However, what makes this watch truly unique is has a winding crown positioned at 9 o'clock on the left hand side of the case. The left-handers have been a part of Officine Panerai’s offer since 1940s, when the first model of this kind was designed for Italian Navy commandos. This practical improvement was tailored to meet the needs of the special operations force operatives, who typically had to wear many other instruments (such as compasses and depth gauges) on their wrists.

Panerai Luminor Submersible Left-Handed Titano PAM569

Panerai Luminor Submersible Left-Handed Titano PAM569 features a special rotating bezel, which is modeled after the vintage 1950s model created by Panerai for the Egyptian Navy. The bezel is also an important diving instrument, as it helps the wearer to calculate the immersion times. Thanks to its screw-down case-back, this watch can accompany its wearer on serious underwater adventures, to up to 300 meters of depth. The case-back features a special engraving of a slow-running torpedo, which is the underwater vehicle created by the Italian Navy for its commandos, to help them operate more effectively under water.

The new Luminor Submersible 1950 Left-handed has a nice black waffle dial (decorated with Clous de Paris motif), and applied dot or line markers coated in ecru Super-LumiNova, which gives it a distinctively vintage look. In addition to hours and minutes, this watch also has a date indicator, which is placed at 9 o’clock position, symmetrical to the small seconds sub-counter at 3 o-clock. The dial is highly legible, which is one of the most distinctive features of all Panerai’s creations, and is nestled in a 47mm case-diameter.

Panerai Luminor Submersible Left-Handed Titano PAM569 utilizes a mechanical, automatic P.9000 calibre movement, which, thanks to its double barrel and its bidirectional winding system, provides no less than 3 days of power reserve. The watch is issued in a Special Limited Edition that comprises of only 1000 pieces, priced at $11,600. Each of the exemplars is mounted on a brown leather strap with ecru stitching and it arrives in a luxurious pear wood box, together with a rubber replacement strap, a strap replacement tool and a steel screwdriver.
