Officine Panerai presents the exclusive new Radiomir 3 Days GMT Oro Rosso
On the occasion of the Watches and Wonders 2014 exhibition, Officine Panerai unveiled a rare special edition of its Radiomir model. This time the historic model, which was prototyped by Panerai in 1936, comes in an exclusive version made of red gold and equipped with a practical GMT function. Faithful to its traditions, Panerai retains the original look of Radiomir, which is still distinguished by its simple and linear design, but the major advances in its evolution can be perceived only through the sapphire case-back that reveals the fascinating new P.3001/10 caliber.
Panerai Radiomir 3 Days GMT Oro Rosso comes in a cushion-shaped case, which is modeled after the first watches created by Officine Panerai for the commandos of the Royal Italian Navy back in 1936. Even its large diameter, measuring 47mm, remains unchanged. The main novelty is in the choice of material used for its construction – a noble red gold, which emanates a warm hue thanks to its high copper content, combined with platinum.
For this special edition, Officine Panerai has opted for an unusual deep blue dial that makes a stunning contrast with a golden case. The layout of the dial is simple and reduced, just like in all of the Manufacture’s creations. The dial is satiné soleil finished and it features Panerai’s emblematic sandwich structure. The top tier of the dial features delicate cut-outs for numerals and indices, while the bottom layer features a rich luminous coating. In low light conditions, the bottom tier emanates a soft glow, which creates a spectacular creates great depth and dimension.
The in-house caliber P.3001/10 is manufactured in Panerai’s workshops in Neuchâtel. It propels a gorgeous three-hander, and equips it with the practical GMT function, which is especially useful for travelers, as it enables the wearer to read times in two different time zones. The movement is hand-wound and it beats at 21,600 alternations/hour. Thanks to its two barrels, the caliber provides no less than 3 days of power reserve, with the power indicator of remaining power placed on the back of the case. The finishing of the movement is equally impressive, as it includes bridges and two spring barrels skeletonized, with chamfered and polished edges.
The reference number for the new Panerai Radiomir 3 Days GMT Oro Rosso is PAM00598. This exclusive piece is produced in a limited edition of 200 exemplars. Each individual piece is mounted on PANERAI personalized alligator strap with 18-karat polished red gold buckle, and sealed against the ingress of water to up to 50 meters.
