Panerai launches Radiomir 1940 Oro Roso – a special edition distinguished by its vintage, historic case design.
The shape of the new Panerai piece evokes the vintage design of the 1940’s when the brand first started to produce watches in which the lugs were molten from the same block of metal as the case. This innovation made the new cases more robust and more resistant, but also much larger than the classic wristwatches of that time.
The new Panerai, PAM 00398, comes in a large case with 47-mm in diameter. The case is crafted in pink gold, so as the screw-down crown graced with the vintage Officine Panerai insignia. Color of the dial is in a perfect harmony with reddish tint of the case, and makes a wonderful foreground for a layer of Super-LumiNova. This model comes with a multi-layered dial which has a lower disk coated in a luminous material and then topped with another disk, on which the numerals are already cut into. There is a small seconds counter at 9 o’clock and luminous engraved Officine Panerai logo, just below the 12 o’clock position. Another interesting thing about this watch is that it doesn’t actually have a sapphire crystal glass but vintage-styled glass made of Plexiglas. The crystal is 3mm thick and looks just like the one used for historical Panerai watches.

Panerai Radiomir Oro Rosso Vintage PAM00398, case-back
The watch utilizes OP XXVII movement, visible through the transparent case-back. The movement beats at 18,000 vibrations per hour, and provides 55 hours of power reserve. The new Panerai Radiomir is offered in a limited edition of 100 pieces in pink god (PAM 0398), each retailing at $55,500, and in 100 pieces in stainless steel (PAM 00399), priced at $29,800. This is a numbered edition of which first 50 models are available in a special box-set containing both watches. The set retails at $85,300.
