Introducing the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Broceliande, an unequivocally feminine vision of the skeleton.
On the occasion of the 25th edition of the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie, Roger Dubuis unveiled a full range of new Excalibur models based on the Manufacture’s contemporary skeleton calibers. One of them, the Excalibur Brocéliande, a perfect example of the Roger Dubuis Creative Skeletons collection, is dedicated to ladies who appreciate fine watchmaking. As the brand explains, the Excalibur Brocéliande is inspired by the mysterious forest of Arthurian legends. Brocéliande is the name of a legendary forest in France, which is tied with magical fountain from the tales of King Arthur, and the tomb of the legendary wizard Merlin.
The Excalibur watch collection is characterized by its unbeaten technical excellence and powerful design. The collection is envisioned as a modern take on classic Swiss haute horlogerie, an ultimate expression of extravagance with style. The new Excalibur Brocéliande combines decorative jewelry elements with the skeleton flying tourbillon movement. The openworked structure of the dial is inspired by the latticework that serves to support ivy as it winds its way along walls or fences… The wines are intertwined with the bridges, embracing the very core of the mechanical calibre, to the point where they come to be indistinguishable from each other. The leaves are made of semi-precious stones in autumnal colors, while the golden wires of ivy branches are set with diamonds.
In the words of Lionel Favre, the Manufacutre’s Product Design Director: “Jewelers and skeleton-work specialists indeed rarely enjoy such an outstanding opportunity for dialogue and interaction, marrying a world entirely dedicated to beauty and precious gems, with a highly technical form of expertise involving 100th of a micron precision. This unprecedented collaboration involves eye-watering complexity and a degree of finesse that proves a daunting challenge when working with such tiny motifs. The decorative elements are artfully added to the movement without disturbing its operation, implying extremely delicate assembly within such a small volume.”
Roger Dubuis Excalibur Brocéliande is crafted from pink gold, and its round, diamond-set case measures 42mm in diameter. The watch is water resistant to 30 meters, and it comes with a deep ruby strap made of genuine alligator leather. In the spirit of fine watchmaking, the strap is hand-stitched, and it features a matching pink gold adjustable folding clasp decorated with tiny white diamonds.
Roger Dubuis Excalibur Brocéliande is powered by the skeleton flying tourbillon RD505SQ, which is a mechanical hand-wound movement. The mechanism features a Flying tourbillon at 7.30 o’clock, which completes one full revolution per minute, it is finely adjusted in six positions, and provides indications for hours and minutes. The movement is built on 165 pieces and 19 jewels, it beats at a frequency of 3Hz, and promises around 60 hours of power reserve.
Roger Dubuis Excalibur Brocéliande, reference number RDDBEX0474, is available in 28 exemplars worldwide. The watch is stamped with Poinçon de Genève (Geneva Seal), the highest accolade in the Swiss watchmaking industry. Each of the pieces from this limited edition series is graced with approximately 3.44-carats of diamonds.
