On the occasion of the Watches & Wonders haute horlogerie exhibition, which was opened earlier today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, Roger Dubuis presents its new Hommage Minute Repeater Tourbillon Automatic.
The latest creation from Roger Dubuis will be made available in only 20 pieces worldwide. The easiest way to describe this incredibly complex watch is to say that it serves as an ultra-accurate minute repeater with rectangular, rather than usual round gongs, which are made of new materials.
The watch is powered by the new RD104 movement, which is specifically designed to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Manufacture Roger Dubuis. The movement is issued in a 20-piece limited edition, and it incorporates a minute repeater with centrifugal sound dissipater, a flying tourbillon, and a double micro-rotor, which is a distinctive hallmark of Roger Dubuis. The 3.0 Hz movement is composed of 434 individual components and it rests on 43 jewels, finely adjusted in six positions. The brand has pushed its limits in miniaturization and power so that its 20th anniversary movement measures 14 3/4''' and runs on about 60 hours of power reserve. The double micro-rotors are made in platinum and hand finished in hand-guilloché pink gold.
The tourbillon is nestled in a cage that is assembled from 63 different components. This addition to the watch escapement serves to diminish the effects of gravity, thus ensuring that a watch, as much as it is possible, keeps the same time in all positions. This is something that can never be truly accomplished, but tourbillons certainly contribute to the higher level of accuracy than conventional movements. However, in many cases, and certainly in this one, tourbillons are a splendid demonstration of watchmaking brilliance. The flying tourbillon in the new Hommage Minute Repeater Tourbillon Automatic weighs only 0.68 grams. It’s located between 4 and 6 o’clock position, and can be admired from both sides of the watch. Being only supported from one side, it appears like it is floating feely underneath the crystal.
The minute repeater complication chimes the time down to the minute, using separate tones for hours, quarter hours, and minutes. The innovative rectangular gongs can be admired from the watch face, as they appear around the edge of the dial, while the hammers appear as mirror polished parts of the movement, located on the top of its reverse side.
Roger Dubuis Hommage Minute Repeater Tourbillon Automatic is made of pink gold and it features a traditional Hommage guilloche dial. The time is indicated via golden leaf-shaped hands that float above the brush-finished hour ring with applied Roman numerals. The individual number of each watch is engraved on the right side of the case, while the repeater slide pusher appears on its left side. The watch face also reveals the Hallmark of Geneve insignia, which is featured at 3 o’clock position.
The special limited edition of 20 pieces will be issued in 2015, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Roger Dubuis Maison. The price for this model is set at 380,000 CHF. For more information about this watch, please visit Roger Dubuis online.
