Introducing the Romain Gauthier Prestige HMS Ten

Romain Gauthier, one of the rare independent Swiss watch manufacturers, celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2016. The Montres Romain Gauthier was established back in 2006, and its very first model was the Prestige HM, distinguished by its original in-house movement and traditionally elegant design. This year, the brand presents its HMS Ten model, which celebrates the anniversary of the brand and brings a number of functional and aesthetic innovations.

The elegant guillochéd dial has now been partially openworked, while its deconstructed layout reveals off-center hours and minutes, and small seconds sub-dial. The watch face reveals a harmony of overlapping circles and arcs. A smoothly finished off-center hours-minutes sub-dial is placed inside the chapter ring, and surrounded by a Clous de Paris decorative pattern formed of a guilloché motif of hollowed lines that overlap to create miniscule pyramidal shapes. The lower portion of the dial has been perforated to reveal the balance of the movement and a unique gear that drives the seconds indicator. As Romain Gauthier, the owner of the namesake company, explains, what he wanted to achieve with HMS Ten is the supreme legibility: “My idea was to have a dial with completely unobstructed views. Once the eye is drawn to the hour-minute sub-dial, it is then naturally attracted to the sectorial seconds. Nothing disturbs the wearer’s reading of the time.”

Romain Gauthier HMS Ten is available in three limited editions of 10 pieces each. Their cases are distinguished by pure, unbroken lines, and they measure 41mm in diameter. What is really interesting is that there is no classic crown. Instead, the crown is placed flat on the case-back, which also increases the winding efficiency of the watch, as the energy doesn’t need to be transmitted through 90°. On the other hand, this solution contributes to less wear and tear of the components.

The watch and its movement have been entirely conceived, developed, decorated and assembled by Manufacture Romain Gauthier, except for the mainspring, balance spring and jewels. The in-house manufacture movement Calibre HMS is made of 128 individual components and 22 jewels. It beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour, ensuring at least 60 hours of power reserve. The cases are available in 5N red gold, white gold or platinum 950, each issued in a limited edition of 10 pieces.
