The core of the timepiece is one of the largest automatic movements ever created, IWC in-house 51614 caliber, with a seven-day power reserve, a mechanical perpetual calendar complication, a four-digit year display and a moon phase complication. The transparent sapphire crystal back reveals the beauty of the caliber, which beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour, and consists of 62-jewels. The rotor is engraved with the lettering PILOT’S CLASSIC LTD. EDITION 2010 and the words ONE OUT OF 250 on the casing ring refer to the quantity of the limited edition.
All of the calendar displays are using unique form of synchronization, with no need for further adjustment. For example, the calendar shows every leap day in the Gregorian calendar until 2100. The displays are advanced synchronously, as one, with help of the crown, which is a great feature especially useful if the watch has not been worn for some time. When the watch is worn normally, the efficient Pellaton winding system fully winds the spring of the long-running movement in just under two days.
The large black dial of the timepiece is enhanced with bright orange hands and indexes. There is a power reserve display at 3 o’clock, combined with a date display. The indicator moves anticlockwise from 1 to 7 showing that it is fully wound, and how many days of power reserve is left. The black alligator leather strap with its folding clasp comes with the characteristic rivets and contrasting quilted stitching in orange.
The price of the Big Pilot Perpetual Calendar Limited Edition 2010 will be EUR 22.100,- for EU residents and EUR 18.572,- for non-EU residents.
