Longines Legend Diver Timepiece: a re-issue of a 1960s diving watch

Longines has just revealed their newest creation, which pays homage to the great sporting pioneers and their exploits. The new piece, the Longines Legend Diver, is a revamp of their old diver’s watch, produced back in the 1960’s. The re-issued model radiates with the charming spirit of 1960’s, but this time the classical design is endowed with a couple of high-performance technical features.

Longines has always been deeply attached to sport in every dimension. They had an active role in establishing a deep-sea diving record, that of the bathyscaphe Trieste in 1953, at a depth of 3150 meters. Seven years later, the Legend Diver was born, only to revive once again in 2011.

The new timepiece comes with the same curved watch crystal as the original, but this time mineral glass was substituted for the latest quality domed sapphire crystal. The watch is equipped with bidirectional rotating flange, which provides an instant readout of the remaining time. The hour markers and hands are now finished with a luminous layer, providing improved time telling even at the ocean depths. The Legend Diver is housed in 42 mm wide case crafted in stainless steel. It is secured with two screw-lock crowns, decorated with a finely chased checked design.

This diver’s timepiece is water resistant to 300 meters and provides generous 45 hours of power reserve, due to the precise automatic L633 mechanical movement. It is mounted on vintage black synthetic strap with white stitching.
