SIHH 2016 Preview: Cartier Pantheres et Colibri watch.
Ahead of the SIHH 2016 exhibition, the house of Cartier presents its new Panthères et Colibri watch, featuring one of the brand’s most recognizable motifs, but in a new, even more refined form. The Panthères et Colibri timepiece is a delicate and feminine creation, dressed in white gold and lit by diamonds. Its deep black lacquered dial reveals an image of a female panther, rendered in white and black diamonds. A small golden hummingbird is depicted fluttering alongside, matched with two golden hands for off-center hours and minutes.
The undisturbed stillness of a dial comes to life each time the wearer presses the winding crown. This is when a baby panther appears besides its mother, escaping from her paws to chase the gold-winged hummingbird. The animated scene, however, is not purely amusing, but also practical. In fact, it is a demonstration of a cleverly tailored power reserve indicator, which shows the time remaining until the watch needs rewinding. This practical information is indicated by the breadth of the bird’s flight. The baby panther and hummingbird are made of rose gold, while the hands are in gilded steel.
Cartier Panthères et Colibri watch is fitted with a new, mechanical, manual-winding caliber 9915 MC movement. In addition to simple hours and minutes, it also features a power reserve (réserve de marche) on demand complication, designed to show the amount of remaining stored energy. Once fully wound, the movement is capable of storing up to 3 days of power reserve.
Cartier Panthères et Colibri watch is made of 18-karat white gold set with 314 brilliant cut diamonds. The watch case measures 42.75mm in diameter, and it is 11.4mm thick. A fine black leather alligator strap completes the creation, while its deployant folding clasp shines in a light of its 43 brilliant set diamonds. The watch is also available with a gem-set bracelet.
