Cartier Rotonde de Cartier Earth and Moon is a new watch from Cartier, and one of the many new pieces that will be presented at SIHH 2014 exhibition in January, in Geneve.
Cartier Rotonde de Cartier Earth and Moon, originally named Rotonde de Cartier Terre et Lune, is a gorgeous platinum watch paired with an outstanding lapis lazuli dial that showcases a very unique “on demand” moonphase indication. What is so unusual about this complication is that it works when the wearer presses the push-piece located at 4 o’clock. This action triggers the lapis lazuli round disc that symbolizes the shadow on the Moon, while the tourbillon aperture represents the Moon itself. This unusual watch puts two very demanding complications side by side, joining them together on a creative and bold, dynamic display.
The tourbillon, located at 6 o’clock position, is one of the most demanding watchmaking complications and a guarantee of precision and prestige. The main function of a tourbillon is to counteract the effects of gravity when the watch is in a vertical position. The moon phase indicator is dependent on the will of the owner, who can trace the tack of the moon on the sky, by pressing the button at four o’clock. In addition, there is a second time zone, which is indicated by a 24-hour disc crafted from white gold, which is visible at the upper portion of the dial.
Cartier Rotonde de Cartier Earth and Moon is powered by the exceptionally finished 9440 MC caliber , which features delicate semi-skeleton bridges, shaped like stars. The mechanism is built on 362 components and 40 jewels, and it beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour. The wonder of the mechanical manual winding movement is revealed through the transparent case-back. Once fully wound, it provides about 3 days of power reserve.
Cartier Rotonde de Cartier Earth and Moon is available in 50 pieces. The watch is crafted from platinum, it measures 47mm in diameter and it is delivered on a black alligator strap with folding buckle in white gold. This watch can be yours for about $275,000.
