Chopard, the Official Timing Partner for Porsche Motorsport since 2014, honors the latest edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a new special edition.
This year, the Swiss watchmaker is presenting the Superfast Chrono Porsche 919 Black Edition, a robust, masculine chronograph of avant-garde design. The luxurious and bold timepiece, distinguished by its intense black, white and red detailing, is inspired by the new Porsche 919 Hybrid from the German team.
The new Superfast Chrono Porsche 919 Black Edition, created especially for the 84th edition of the popular endurance race, is a 100-piece limited series exclusively available in Chopard boutiques. Even more exclusive than the original 919 Superfast, the new model is picking up the aesthetic codes of the new Porsche prototype. Its rather large body, measuring 45 mm in diameter, is crafted from ultra-light titanium, which is a material much favored in the world of endurance racing. Just for the record, the original Superfast 919 was made from stainless steel, so this is a slight upgrade from the previous model.
The case is further bead-blasted and blackened by a DLC treatment, which makes it even more sturdy and resistant to scratches, and topped by a lacquered bezel, which is also made from titanium. Secured by eight PVD-coated black screws, the bezel is engraved with a tachymetric scale, which can be used to measure average speed or distance travelled.
The Black Edition plays on the contrasts between three colors of the new Porsche prototype. Its matte black dial reveals red counter hands, minute markers, and central sweep-seconds hand. The Arabic numerals, hours and minutes hands as well as metallic hour-markers, are coated with white Superluminova.
The case of the Superfast Chrono Porsche 919 Black Edition houses the in-house Chopard Calibre 03.05M. The COSC-certified movement delivers a 60-hour power reserve, and features a flyback function. The movement is mounted on 45 jewels, and it beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The special sapphire crystal case-back, which protects the movement against harmful ingress of water to 100 meters, reveals a commemorative inscription “Official Timing Partner Porsche Motorsport” as well as the team logo.
Chopard Superfast Chrono Porsche 919 Black Edition, reference number 168535-3005, is mounted on with a black rubber strap inspired by slick competition racing tires. The watch is a 100-piece limited edition for Chopard boutiques, and it retails at a price of $14,370 USD.
