Corum introduces new variants of its famous Bubble model - the Corum Bubble Squelette, the Corum Bubble Paiste, and the Corum Bubble Op Art…

Back in 2000, the house of Corum introduced its contemporary oversized model named the Bubble. This radical and modern timepiece, distinguished by its large and tall sapphire crystal, became an instant hit. The Bubble was envisioned by the late Severin Wunderman, who was inspired by an experimental deep-sea dive watch from the 1960s, which was equipped with a huge domed crystal to survive the pressure of the ocean. In 2015, for the occasion of the 15th anniversary of this flagship model, Corum has revived it as the part of the Heritage collection. Earlier this year, the brand has released the 2015 Bubble, which has been enlarged to 47 mm, and fitted with a sapphire crystal that is 8 mm high, which makes it one of the largest of any watch. For the end of the year, Corum introduces three new variants - the Corum Bubble Squelette, the Corum Bubble Paiste, and the Corum Bubble Op Art

Today we’ll take a closer look at the two new models from the Op Art series, which is distinguished by its innovative dial with a clever motif, inspired by the Op Art movement. Two new models are now added to the Op Art Series, launched this year. The most distinctive detail, its 8 mm high sapphire crystal, acts as a lens that both magnifies and distorts the dial. Two new variants of the Bubble Op Art have been designed in collaboration with the industrial designer Nicolas Le Moigne, who recreated two new motifs inspired by Op Art principles (optical art).

The artist created these interesting dials based on the principles of Op Art, by which static patterns are created in such a way to give an impression of movement or surprising and contradictory perspectives. For this occasion, the optimized 3D effects to an extremely reduced surface of a dial, which is, on the first dial, pictured as the continuation of the dome-shaped crystal sapphire, giving the illusion of a sphere in a sphere – the Bubble Sphere2. The second model of the Op Art series is full of landforms, revealing a perfectly controlled alternation of highs and lows – the Bubble Drop.

Each of the models belonging to the Bubble Op Art series is made in an exclusive limited edition of just 350 pieces. The Bubble Sphere 2 model features a brass dial and a PVD-coated blue-toned case, while the second one is entirely brown PVD coated, and made using the same materials. The two new timepieces are fitted with rubber straps topped with leather, featuring a buckle that matches the case finish.

The stainless steel cases of both accommodate the automatic caliber C0082, which beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, providing around 42 hours of power reserve. The blue, Bubble Sphere 2 model is referenced as L082/02849, while the reference number L082/02848 indicates the brown Bubble Drop model. Each is available in a limited edition comprising 350 pieces. The watch cases measure 47 mm in diameter, and they are water resistant to up to 100 meters. Each of the Bubble Op Art models retails at $3,750.
