Harry Winston introduces a new model to its Premier collection, which showcases unexpected pairings and demonstrates the use of highly original decorative techniques. Uniting the watchmaking tradition and artistic crafts, Harry Winston has created the Premier Precious Butterfly Automatic 36mm, a watch aimed at ladies who appreciate fine watchmaking. The brand, which has already combined ancestral skills of horology and feather art for its Premier Feathers collection, has now chosen butterfly wings as key decorative element.
As described by Harry Winston, vibrantly colored butterfly wings are brimming with emotions and symbolism. The bursting dials of the Precious Butterfly Automatic models are created with fragile and iridescent powder found on butterfly wings. It took three years for the Maison’s designers to conceive and develop a technique that allows them to successfully harvest the powder, and set it on the dials. This powder is the only material used to create the unique motif, which is reminiscent of remarkable emerald gemstones. The model is available in three new variants, each as unique as a butterfly.

With each of these timepieces these pigmented powders create a fascinating phantasmagoria of colors, thus recreating butterfly wings. The dials catch and hold light just like the wings of a butterfly, while the sapphire crystal seems to be the only thing that keeps the butterfly inside the case 36 mm case. The housing, crafted from 18-karat gold, accommodates the mechanical automatic movement Caliber HW2008. The movement is assembled from 186 components and 28 jewels. It beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, and offers about 42 hours of power reserve.

There are three dial variations available, each embraced by 57 brilliant-cut diamonds (approx. 2.32 carats). The white gold variant replicates the “Chrysiridia Madagascariensis” butterfly marquetry butterfly motif on metal, and it comes on a burgundy tech satin strap. The rose gold versions are “Adelpha Lara” butterfly marquetry motif dial with a brown tech satin strap, and “Agrias claudina lugens” dial with a champagne-toned beige tech satin strap. The buckles are also made of matching gold, and set with 17 brilliant-cut diamonds (approx. 0.15 carats). Total weight of brilliant-cut diamonds for each watch is approximately 2.47 carats, for 74 stones.
