Jaeger-LeCoultre presents the latest fruit of its collaboration with British luxury sports car maker, Aston Martin - Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX2 Transponder.
Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX2 Transponder is the new sequel to the legendary AMVOX lineage, which started back in 2006, with an avant-garde horological innovation – AMVOX chronograph. The AMVOX collection honors the rich legacy of the inventor Edmond Jaeger, and the mark he left on the automobile industry. Jaeger, who was a specialist in fine micro-engineering, was passionate about developing mechanisms for speed measurements. His chronographs, tachometers, kinemometers and counters were widely used in aviation, shipping and, of course, automobiles. The AMVOX models are inspired by his ingenious inventions, cutting-edge automobile technology, clever electronics and Aston Martin’s luxury sports cars.

Inspired by unconventional automobile technology and the world of Aston Martin, the first AMVOX chronograph, from 2006, features an ingeniuos vertical-trigger action system, which activates the chronograph start, stop and reset functions by a lever on the left side of the case. The lever locks or unlocks the sapphire crystal watch glass, enabling the wearer to start, stop and reset chrono functions by pivoting the watch glass towards 12 or 6 o’clock. The chronograph starts and stops when the wearer tilts the glass by pressing the edge of the crystal at 12 o’clock. Similarly, the central seconds hand, and the 30-minute and 12-hour counters are reset by pressing the crystal at 6 o’clock. The secret of this ingenious mechanism lies on the edge of the case, and beneath the glass, where a ball-and-socket joint uses the leverage effect generated by the pressure. All levers participating in the process are attached on miniature stainless steel ball-bearing mechanisms holding seven 0.1 mm-diameter balls.
Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX2 Transponder, the 2014 version of the AMVOX chronograph, introduces a new, personalized function – the integrated remote lock/unlock function to control the doors of an Aston Martin. Jaeger-LeCoultre had already developed a number of watches that allow the wearer to control the doors of their Aston Martin, but this one is quite unique as it works with all current model range of Aston Martins. The wearer of the Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX2 Transponder will be able to lock or unlock its Aston Martin from a distance, by simply pressing the sapphire crystal of the watch. The function, certainly, doesn’t replace the key of the car - the Keyless Access function, serving to start the engine of an Aston Martin by pressing the engine stop/start button, still necessitates the existence of the ignition key.
The double case-back of the Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX2 Transponder conceals a micro-transmitter, and the antenna positioned beneath the watch glass, making it visible from the dial side. Two discreet sensors, marked “Open” and “Close”, are positioned below the crystal, and activated using a light touch. Another amazing detail is that when the Calibre 751E is in operation and the chronograph is active, it produces a characteristic ticking sound and the Aston Martin logo can be seen spinning on its axis.
Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX2 Transponder is made of titanium, and it measures 44mm in diameter. The watch is powered by Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 751E automatic movement, which beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The movement provides 65-hours of power reserve, and it is sealed against the ingress of water to up to 50 meters.
Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX2 Transponder is mounted on a black leather strap and it has two different reference numbers, depending on the localized version. The global version is referenced as Q192T480, while the US version bears a reference number Q192T48A, and it retails at US$ 29,500
