To celebrate the 85th anniversary of the iconic Reverso, Jaeger-LeCoultre has teamed up with an artisan who has elevated the shoe to an art form. Introducing the Jaeger-LeCoultre Atelier Reverso by Christian Louboutin.
On the occasion of the Reverso’s 85th anniversary, the famous Swiss watchmaker Jaeger-LeCoultre partnered with the popular shoe designer Christian Louboutin for a very special Reverso collection. This time, the iconic Reverso comes in a special, colorful edition, dedicated to all ladies (and some gentlemen) who appreciate high fashion and fine watchmaking. The famous Parisian shoemaker and designer reimagined the colors and straps of the collection, while pointing away from the famous Louboutin red cliché.
As he explained to The Hollywood Reporter: "I do very, very few collaborations, because it also needs to feel like a challenge to me. To simply add red isn’t a challenge. What I really wanted to do was marry our two DNAs and see how they might work together."
The result of the exciting collaboration is the new customizable Jaeger-LeCoultre Atelier Reverso by Christian Louboutin, which made its debut at the annual SIHH watch exhibition in Geneva, in January this year. The collection is taking the Reverso customization up to the next level by allowing the customer to envision and design his or her own unique Reverso timepiece. The service is offered in Jaeger-LeCoultre boutiques, and online at jeager-lecoultre.com.
The basic design of the iconic Reverso stays the same – the famous Art Deco-inspired case with its two dial faces and a swiveling case. In case you didn’t know - the original Reverso was designed for polo players, and it made its debut in 1931. As its name suggests, the case of the Reverso can be rotated in its carrier to protect the watch crystal during the match.
The Louboutin Reversos are offered in the small and medium sizes of the Reverso Classic Duo and Duetto families. “On such a small item, I wanted to include and play with ideas from the expansive worlds of color, form, reflection, and transparency.”
Since Louboutin’s work is rooted in femininity, he wanted to soften the case of the Reverso, and bring into its rectangular design an element of circles. He added curve to the angles, to make the watches more sensual and unmistakably feminine. Louboutin offered a range of combinations in seven dials and seven watchbands, each focused on texture - pavé diamonds on a rose-enamel dial, rose-gold chains, perforated watchbands…
One model’s back dial reveals glistening, iridescent coral-toned sunburst pattern, finding its counterpart in the iridescent leather strap on which the shades of green, blue, and purple emerge as the wearer moves its wrist. Another model features a clear, transparent plastic strap, evocative of several of Louboutin’s shoe collections. The most interesting is a luxurious, colorful strap with signature cutouts, inspired by the look of a Christian Louboutin shoe.
