Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Virtual Museum Project

Marina Milojević | 12.20.10 | 04:28 AM

As we approach the 80th anniversary of the Reverso in 2011, Jaeger-LeCoultre is taking a nostalgic look back at owners of this classic timepiece and giving them a chance to be remembered.

Jaeger-LeCoultre created the largest ever Virtual Museum devoted to the legendary reversible watch, and now invites LeClub members who own a Reverso to exhibit their watch in one of the Museum rooms, and tell its story.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre was founded in 1833 when Antoine LeCoultre, son of watchmaker Jacque LeCoultre, opened a small workshop in the Swiss town of Le Sentier. LeCoultre was awarded a gold medal for his precision and mechanization as recognition of his collective works in watch industry in 1851 at the first Universal Exhibition in London. The Reverso watch is their exclusive creation. Reverso timepieces can be traced back to 1931 when César de Trey, a pioneering Swiss figure in the history of Jaeger-LeCoultre, commissioned Parisian engineer René-Alfred Chauvot to develop a watch especially for avid polo players. To protect its dial from hard knocks during matches, this exceptional creation featured a unique swiveling case. Almost 80 years after, the legendary Reverso still stands out among contemporary timepieces. Among the personalities who have worn the Reverso are, for example, King Edward VIII of England, the celebrated aviator Amelia Earhart or the young English girls who wore watches engraved with the insignia of Eton College, Harrow or St. Andrews University.

By exhibiting their Reverso timepieces in the Reverso Virtual Museum Project, LeClub members can enter into the elite world of this legendary wristwatch, experience its history again and discover the personalities who have worn one. The Virtual Museum also allows its owners to upload photos of their Reverso to further personalize the exhibits.

By exposing your Reverso in the Jaeger-LeCoultre Virtual Museum, you enter the exclusive world of this legendary watch and, if your watch is voted on by the Virtual Museum visitors, you may win the chance to visit Jaeger-LeCoultre Manufacture.

If you own a Reverso in your collection, register and take a part in making the history by visiting Reverso Virtual Museum. The exposition will be open to general public online starting January 2011.
