The house of Maurice Lacroix, known for its passion for skeletonizing, has just revealed the new Aikon Automatic Skeleton, a watch that is expected to debut at this year’s BaselWorld watch and jewelry show. The manufacture, known for offering high quality watches at affordable prices, is bringing its new self-winding skeleton movement to a wider crowd of watch enthusiasts.
The new member of the Aikon watch family arrives in a freshly redesigned wide Aikon case that was tactically reshaped in order to house this new type of movement. While the Aikon line was previously equipped exclusively with quartz movement, the latest addition to the range is bringing the first mechanical movement, the manufacture ML234 calibre.
The new automatic movement is also openworked according to a brand new pattern structured by a series of five concentric circles that run diagonally through the entire watch. The bridges of the movement are coated in black DLC, while their central canal is lower and sandblasted, and the outline is one level higher and satin-brushed. All of the components, including the winding mechanism and the oscillating weight, are hollowed out and reduced to their bare essentials. The transparent sapphire dial features rhodium-plated indices, two rhodium plated hands coated in white Super-LumiNova, and a small seconds counter at 6 o’clock position. The movement beats at a frequency of 2.5Hz (18,000 vph), offering about 52 hours of power reserve.
The new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Skeleton is crafted from stainless steel and it measures 43mm in diameter and 13mm in thickness. The tonneau-shaped case is topped with a round bezel and secured to the wrist by an integrated alligator leather strap.
Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Skeleton, reference number AI6028-SS001-030-1, will be officially unveiled at the BaselWorld 2018, which takes place from March 22nd to March 27th 2018. The anticipated retail price for this model is $ 5,990 USD. For more information, please visit mauricelacroix.com.
