Introducing the Patek Philippe 5940G-001 Ultra-Thin Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar
On the occasion of the BaselWorld 2014, Patek Philippe presents a new version of its Perpetual Calendar 5940 model. This ultra-thin self-winding perpetual calendar, originally launched in 2012 (in yellow gold version) to celebrate the brand’s heritage in perpetual calendars, now arrives in a stunningly beautiful white gold version. Same as its predecessor, the Patek Philippe 5940G-001 is an Art Deco inspired watch, whose design is strongly influenced by sleek and clean lines of this aesthetic movement. This form watch arrives in a cushion-shaped case, inspired by the brand’s most popular creations from the 1920’s, which was brought in the limelight in 2010, with the introduction of the ultra-thin split-seconds monopusher chronograph Ref. 5950. The Patek Philippe 5940G-001 measures 44.6 mm in length and 37 mm in width, while being only 8.6 mm thick.

Inside this perpetual calendar watch is the caliber 240 Q, which is made of 275 individual parts and fitted with a 22K-gold off-center mini-rotor. The complication automatically take into consideration the months with 31, 30, or 28 days, and the 29th of February in leap years, thus always showing the correct date. Like any other perpetual calendar, it doesn’t need to be adjusted until 2100. The watch is also fitted with a moon-phase display, which shares the same position as the analog date, at 6 o’clock. The day of the week and the 24-hour dial are placed at 9 o’clock, while the counter at 3 o’clock indicates the month and leap-year cycle. The beauty of the velvety silvery-white dial with gold applied Breguet numerals is accentuated with leaf-shaped hour and minute hands.

Patek Philippe 5940G-001 Ultra-Thin Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar is mounted on a matt black hand-stitched alligator strap with square scales and a prong buckle in white gold. The watch beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour, and runs on about 48 hours of power reserve. This model is water resistant to 30 meters and priced at $93,800 or €72,480.00.
