Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Chronograph Ref 5960/1A is one of the manufacture's rare classically elegant wristwatches that combine a complicated movement with a stainless steel case.
At this year’s BaselWorld exhibition, Patek Philippe manufacture has marked its 175th anniversary and announced the official celebratory ceremony, which will take place this coming autumn. Patek Philippe is one of the true doyens of the BaselWorld Watch and Jewelry Show, exhibiting every year since 1931. This year's Basel debuts include four new watches revolving around the theme of "The art of permanent development." The most notable among them, and certainly the rarest, is the new Annual Calendar Chronograph Ref. 5960/1A, which is the brand’s first complicated steel wristwatch outside the Nautilus and Aquanaut collection.
Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Chronograph Ref. 5960/1A is described as a highly functional measuring instrument, a watch that combines a sophisticated mechanical movement and a robust stainless steel case. In addition, this is also Patek’s first steel watch that features the supple drop link bracelet in stainless steel. The architecture of the dial follows the same line of practical inspiration, which emphasizes its remarkable functionality even further. The high contrast silvery-gray backdrop is punctuated with black appliques, giving it a sleek, three-dimensional graphic look, and super-legibility. The first day of the month is painted in the same vibrant shade of red as the red-lacquered chronograph and minute-counter hands.
Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Chronograph Ref. 5960/1A is powered by the self-winding caliber CH 28-520 IRM QA 24H chronograph movement, which features a standard column-wheel control, a contemporary vertical disk clutch and the Spiromax® balance spring made of high-tech Silinvar material. The Silinvar is actually a patented silicone-based material obtained through oxidation in a vacuum. This process alters the surface of the silicon on the molecular level to allow compensation for thermal variations, thus helping the oscillator to run more stable and meet the Patek Philippe Seal precision criteria by which a mechanical movement can deviate no more than -3 to +2 seconds per day.
The movement is made from 154 individual components, it automatically takes into account months with 30 and 31 days and only needs to be manually corrected by one day on March 1 of each year. The Patek Philippe CH 28-520 IRM QA 24H caliber beats at a frequency of 28,800 semi-oscillations per hour, and it provides between 45 and 55 hours of power reserve. It features a Chronograph with 60-minute and 12-hour mono-counter and an Annual Calendar Chronograph function with Day, date, and month shown in three separate apertures.
Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Chronograph Ref. 5960/1A in stainless steel, measures 40.5 mm in diameter and it is water resistant to 30 meters. The model is priced at 45,000 Swiss francs, excluding taxes.
