Mille Et Une Heures translates as Thousand And One Hour, referring to the impressive amount of time required to create each of the pieces. The watches are crafted from noble materials and entirely set with diamonds of different shapes and colors. Each of these pieces requires somewhere from 500 to 1500 hours of careful work before it shines in a brilliant glow revealing its silhouette of animal forms, exotic flowers or arabesque motifs.
Cartier has kindly provided a video of Denis Paumier, master jeweler at work on the Cheval, featured in the Mille Et Une Heures collection. The movie is a part of Cartier’s Mechanics of Passion exhibition at Cartier SIHH 2011.
