Jaeger-LeCoultre Duometre a Quantieme Lunaire

Posted 11 months, 2 weeks ago

The famous Swiss manufacturer just extended the Duomètre line by introducing the magnificent Quantième Lunaire.

This watch uses the Dual-Wing movement concept and indicates time, date and moon phase, at the same time. The dial displays time using a jumping seconds hand, showing 1/6th of second increments. The date and the moon phase are indicated in their own realms, two separate counters positioned at the upper left and the upper right portion of the dial. A glance at the watch reveals it is a special, very limited edition of only 200 pieces – a small silvered plate at 6 o’clock indicates the number of the series. Another interesting detail is two seconds hands: one is at the center and one at 6 o’clock.

The watch is made of white gold and sculptured in a 42 millimeter wide case. The housing is carefully polished and satin brushed to embrace the chambered sapphire crystal. This is the very same design-principle that was once used by Jaeger-LeCoultre to create, now historical, pocket watches. On the edge of the case, positioned just at 10 o’clock, there is a push button that serves to regulate the date, and another one, between the lugs at 12 o’clock, to adjust the moon phase.

Dual-Wing Movement, used for this watch, offers a different concept of timekeeping. It uses two independent power supplies, one to regulate the measurement of time, while the other drives the complications. The Duomètre à Quantième Lunaire uses an outstandingly complex calibre with two barrels and over 369 parts. It offers 50 hours of power reserve and beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour or 3 Hertz. Waterproof to 50 meters, this watch is mounted on black alligator leather strap with folding clasp in 18-carat white gold.
