The famous Swiss watchmaker OMEGA is proudly supporting Emirates Team New Zealand during its upcoming campaign to win the 35th America’s Cup, which is taking place this month, June 2017. OMEGA has been a major sponsor and Official Timekeeper of the team for no less than 27 years. As part of its continuous support for the Kiwi crew, the watchmaker has unveiled two new pieces, the Speedmaster X-33, and the Seamaster Planet Ocean ETNZ "Deep Black" Master Chronometer.
OMEGA Speedmaster X-33 Regatta ETNZ, is the model the Kiwi crew members will wear on board when racing. The Omega Speedmaster X-33 model is originally meant for professional aviation purposes, but since it is made to hold firm and stay precise under even the most challenging conditions, it is also a fitting tribute to the Emirates Team New Zealand.
The new timepiece is made from highly resistant yet lightweight grade 2 titanium, featuring a 45mm wide case and 30m of water resistance. The water resistant rating of this watch is quite confusing, since 30 meters of water resistance makes it only splash and rain resistant, and not suitable for swimming, bathing, or even showering and water related work. To be suitable for sailing and water sports, a watch needs to be water resistant to at least 100 meters, and this one is designed to be used during the yacht racing competition. Obviously, water resistance is a huge concern for the Omega Speedmaster X-33 Regatta ETNZ.
The watch is powered by the quartz 5620 movement, which powers the analog three-hand time function and a special countdown timer for regatta racing, which keeps track of the critical five minute countdown and race time. The digital functions can be programmed to show three time zones, chronograph, timer, perpetual calendar information, and two alarms. The watch is fitted with a black dial with blue rings and white transferred markings, as well as cut outs for digital readings. A bezel ring is designed in a ceramic / titanium mix, with a black ceramic minute track filled with Liquidmetal.
The Omega Speedmaster X-33 Regatta ETNZ, reference number 318.92.45.79.01.001, is limited to 2,017 pieces. The back of the watch features a commemorative engraving with EMIRATES TEAM NEW ZEALAND logo and "CHALLENGER FOR THE 35TH AMERICA’S CUP", "X-33 REGATTA", and the limited edition number. The watch is mounted on a black coated nylon fabric strap with blue rubber lining and blue stitching. The Omega Speedmaster X-33 Regatta ETNZ Limited Edition is priced at $5,900.
The second watch, the Seamaster Planet Ocean ETNZ "Deep Black" Master Chronometer, is designed for fans of the racing team. It features a lack ceramic case adorned with blue and red accents for the first 10 minutes, evocative of the New Zealand flag. An EMIRATES TEAM NEW ZEALAND logo in red rubber can be seen on the caseback, which is ringed with the words CHALLENGER 35TH AMERICA'S CUP.
The model is presented on a black structured rubber strap with black and blue rubber lining and red stitching, and powered by the self-winding OMEGA Master Chronometer Calibre 8906. The watch is water resistant to 600 meters, and it provides around 60 hours of power reserve. Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean ETNZ "Deep Black" Master Chronometer, reference 215.92.46.22.01.004, is priced at 11.400 CHF.
