Omega Planet Ocean Master Chronometers for BaselWorld 2016

Marina Milojević | 04.11.16 | 08:50 PM

At BaselWorld 2016, Omega presented 6 new movements and no less than 46 models carrying the Master Chronometer rating.

In 2015, the house of Omega released the Omega Globemaster, a watch that carries the prestigious title of being the world’s first master chronometer. At that time, Omega promised to continue the Master Chronometer saga, and introduce a number of new models certified by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS). The new era of excellence continues this year, as Omega slowly fulfills its plan to certify the majority of its mechanical watches as Master Chronometers by 2020. Among the latest additions is the entire range of new Seamaster Planet Ocean watches, equipped with the first Master Chronometer movements. One is a new Planet Ocean Chronograph (9900 / 9901), accompanied by a GMT addition (8906) that has been used for the new Planet Ocean 600M model. For ladies, OMEGA introduces a new Master Chronometer movement for the Planet Ocean 600M (8800 / 8801).

OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m Master Chronometer “Chocolate” is announced as a tempting new timepiece for ladies. As explained in Omega’s BaselWorld press release, this charming new model symbolizes the union of Switzerland’s most luxurious icons: watchmaking and chocolate. The Planet Ocean 600M Master Chronometer, which has been updated to the industry’s highest standard of certification, features a gourmand chocolate-brown dial enclosed in a 39.5 mm case made of 18k Sedna gold.

This is the first time that Sedna gold has been used for the Planet Ocean collection. As you can see, it appears on the case, hands, indexes, and the foldover clasp of the brown leather strap. The model is slightly larger than some of its previous iterations, only a bit thinner. The case-back is fitted with a sapphire crystal, thus allowing the wearer to admire the new calibre 8801 and its oscillating weight made from 18K Sedna™ gold. The dial and the bezel are made from brown ceramic, while the Omega Ceragold technology has been used to create the numerals and markers on the diving scale. Reference number 215.63.40.20.13.001 – available from October 2016.

The Seamaster Planet Ocean Master Chronometer Collection for men has been changed from the inside out. The movements have all passed rigorous new testing standards set down by the independent Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology, while the cases are much thinner, with new bezels, fresh designs, and made from interesting contemporary materials such as Sedna Gold, Liquidmetal, rubber, and ceramic.

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 45.5 mm Chronograph

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 45.5 mm Chronograph features an 18K Sedna gold and steel case and polished blue ceramic dial. The watch is mounted on a dual-tone stainless steel bracelet with Sedna gold links. The ceramic dial and bezel are decorated with Ceragold numerals and diving scale. On the inside, hidden beneath a screw-in case-back is the new Omega Master Chronometer 9900 movement, which beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The movement is mounted on 54 jewels, and it promises around 60 hours of power reserve. Reference number 215.20.46.51.03.001 – available from July 2016.

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 43.5mm Auto is an innovative model on which, for the first time ever, the rubber has been blended with ceramic. Orange rubber insert covers the first 15-minute section of the bezel, while Liquidmetal numerals and scales further accentuate the diving and minute scales.

The movement inside is the Master Chronometer 8900, which beats at a frequency of 25,200 vibrations per hour. This bi-directional self-winding movement is fitted with 39 jewels, and it provides about 60 hours of power reserve. Reference number 215.32.44.21.01.001 – available from July 2016.

The watch is made of stainless steel and it features a bi-directional rotating bezel with day & night sections in contrasting colors. The watch is mounted on a black leather strap with steel foldover clasp. The GMT version of the famous Planet Ocean utilizes the revolutionary Master Chronometer 8906 movement, which works at a frequency of 25’200 A/h, and provides 60 hours of power reserve.
