Omega has announced its new OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean Orange Ceramic. The new watch will be unveiled at the BaselWorld 2014 trade show, which takes place from March 27 to April 3, in Messe Basel, Switzerland.
The fresh new version of the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean is a modern, upbeat interpretation of the famous Seamaster, which is designed for serious underwater adventures. The watch is crafted from platinum and it features a large, 43.50 mm case topped with a bi-directional 24-hour GMT rotating bezel and an orange ceramic ring. This is the very first time in the history of watchmaking that a manufacture uses the orange-colored ceramic for the bezel, which is obtained by adding color pigments to the ceramic base before it is fried. This unusual color innovation is currently patent pending, and Omega celebrates its technical feat with a special limited edition of only 8 OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean Orange Ceramic watches, each marked with a special “World Premiere” engraving on the case back.
The shift from traditional steel or aluminum bezels to those made from ceramic is considered a major update, since ceramic bezels are extremely durable, almost indestructible and absolutely resistant to all scratches. The only drawback here is a limited choice of colors, since colored ceramic is generally considered very hard to obtain without compromising the quality of the material. Such a bold colored bezel as this one is probably a result of a couple of years of Omegas research into this field. The exclusive character of this edition is therefore a testimony to the challenge and complexity of creating the Seamaster Planet Ocean Orange Ceramic.
OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean Orange Ceramic features the sand-blasted 950-grade platinum dial with the 850-grade platinum Liquidmetal® numerals, division lines, inner ring and triangle on the orange bezel. The watch provides indications for hours, minutes, seconds and date, while the central GMT hand, painted in orange, revolves once every 24 hours. The watch is powered by the OMEGA Co-Axial Calibre 8615, which can be admired through the sapphire crystal on the case back. This exclusive OMEGA Co-Axial mechanical movement is fitted with a Si14 silicon balance spring, and it comes with a full four-year warranty.
OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean Orange Ceramic is water resistant to 60 bar (600 meters / 2000 feet) and mounted on an integrated orange leather strap with platinum stitching and a 950-grade platinum foldover clasp. The watch is delivered in a special wooden presentation box, along with a complementary orange rubber strap.
