OMEGA welcomes visitors to Baselworld 2013 with a sporty new addition to the popular Speedmaster collection.
The brand new OMEGA Speedmaster, crafted from black ceramic, is aptly dubbed The Dark Side of the Moon. The watch arrives in 44.25 mm case with a brushed and polished ceramic case-body and matching black zirconium oxide ceramic dial. The dial is lit by 18K white gold applied indexes, while two blackened sub-counters almost melt with the dark backdrop. The watch is directly inspired by Omega’s iconic Moonwatch, a model that accompanied astronauts to the moon on all six lunar missions. The famous Speedmaster now comes in an all-black variant, and its name – The Dark Side of the Moon – nicely illustrates the inspiration behind its creation.
The watch face reveals two sub-dials: a small seconds sub-dial located at 9 o’clock and the 12-hour and 60-minute counters on the same sub-dial at the 3 o’clock position. A date window is positioned at 6 o’clock, while the hour and minute Moonwatch-style hands and the chronograph hand provide accurate readings in all light conditions, thanks to the Super-LumiNova.
The polished ceramic bezel of the Seamaster features the matt chromium nitride tachymeter scale. Two ceramic chronograph pushers are located on each side of the crown, while the case houses the famous in-house movement, the OMEGA Co-Axial caliber 9300, equipped with a Si14 silicon balance spring. The case-back is crafted from solid ceramic and fitted with beveled scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. It reveals the commemorative inscription “DARK SIDE OF THE MOON” which, in the words of the brand, pays a tribute to Speedmaster’s heritage and its bold black design.
