Omega watches were chosen by NASA to become the first watches used on the Moon, in 1969. The Omega Speedmaster Professional Chronograph was that very first watch on the Moon, worn by both Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. In 2007, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Omega Speedmaster Professional Chronograph, Omega issued special limited edition of revamped hand-winding Omega Speedmaster introduced in 1957.
Today, Omega commemorates this 40th anniversary with the Speedmaster Moonwatch "Apollo 15", issued in a limited edition of 1,971 pieces. The number of the series clearly evokes the year of the famous mission. The watch is crafted in stainless steel and comes in brushed and polished case, mounted on the steel bracelet. Black aluminum ring, circling around the dial, is engraved with a tachymeter scale.

This chronograph features three sub-dials arranged in the geometry typical for Speedmaster Professional watches: the small seconds at 9 o'clock, the 12-hour sub-dial at 6 o'clock and the 30-minute sub-dial at 3 o'clock. The design of the dial evokes the original Apollo 15 patch, designed by the Italian dress designer, Emilio Pucci. The patch “Endeavour and Falcon” features three stylized birds flying over the lunar surface. Each of the birds was a symbol for one of the members of the crew: David R.Scott, Commander, Alfred M.Worden, Command Module Pilot, and James B.Irwin, Lunar Module Pilot.

The case-back of the watch is engraved with an image of the Lunar Rover and inscriptions "Apollo 15" and "40th Anniversary". The outer circle of the case-back is made in black chrome and features engraving "The First Watch Worn on the Moon", "July 30, 1971" and the limited edition number. The same manual-winding chronograph Omega caliber 1861 used for the epic Speedmaster Professional animates the watch.
