Chad Le Clos and Omega Watches

OMEGA just announced Chad Le Clos becomes their new swimming ambassador

Chad Le Clos

This young the 19-year-old South African swimming champion made a huge success at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 2010. He collected five medals at the YOG and won gold in the 200-meter butterfly and the 400-meter individual medley at the Commonwealth Games. This way he set Games records in both events and by the end of the year added a gold medal in the 200-meter butterfly, at the FINA World Short Course Championships.

The excellence of a new ambassador will certainly inspire Omega to create new Seamaster and Olympic Games watches, and here is what Chad Le Clos has to say:

“I’m honored to join and to be part of the Omega family”, said Le Clos. “It gives me great confidence knowing that Omega will form part of my team in the future with their exceptionally talented ambassadors. Omega’s support of swimming and swimming legends past and present provides an exciting platform for my professional sporting career and I’m looking forward to having the chance to work closely with them”.

Omega and swimming

Omega is the official FINA partner, providing some of the most accurate timekeeping devices for competitive swimming events. The brand has developed professional equipment which easily times the performance of swimmers and this gear is used at the World Swimming Championships, the FINA World Cup, Ligue Européenne de Natation (LEN) European Aquatics and, most importantly, the Olympic Games.

Some of the brand’s most renewed patents include the Swim Eight-O-Matic Timer, which was first used at the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956. This is the world's first semi-automatic swimming timer that successfully replaced old-fashioned timekeepers with handheld stopwatches. Omega also produces touch pads, placed at the each end of the pool, that stop the clock the very moment a swimmer finishes the race by touching the end of the pool. The pads were first used at the Pan-American games in Winnipeg in 1967. Brand's most recent addition to the flawless timing of sports performance is “live timing”, launched in 2000. This system allows fans from all over the world to monitor real-time results from the www.omegatiming.com website.
