Once again, the house of Perrelet is joining in with the celebrations of the Chinese New Year. The famous Swiss watchmaker pays tribute to the sign of the Fire Rooster, which is the ruling sign of the year 2017. To mark the occasion, Perrelet created a special version of its iconic Turbine, a model distinguished by its rotating, turbine-style watch face. In its latest edition, Perrelet Turbine is dedicated to the Rooster of the Chinese Zodiac. The Perrelet Turbine Rooster has all of its 12 anodized aluminum blades finely engraved with the twelve signs of the Chinese horoscope. Since the model is dedicated to the Rooster, this particular sign stands out brightly in a vibrant shade of red, on the 6 o'clock blade.
The innovative Turbine mechanism, which incorporates a double rotor, creates an astonishing optical effect that starts with the movement of the wrist. Five tungsten counterpoises positioned under the blades ensure the oscillation of the Turbine with the slightest movement of the wrist revealing a red sub-dial livened up by the Rooster Zodiac sign in Chinese characters. As the blades spin faster, the Chinese inscription in red gold starts to appear before the eyes of the observer.
Even though visually astonishing, Perrelet's new Turbine Rooster serves a practical function. The black flange surrounding the dial is marked with indications for hours, minutes, and seconds, coated in black SuperLuminova. The Arabic numerals indicating minutes stand out at every 15 minutes, the indexes are arranged on a scale of 5, while the seconds hand is colored in red.
The exotic new timepice is presented in a round 44mm case crafted from in black PVD treated steel. The case measures 13mm in thickness, and features vertical grooves on the middle and the integrated crown at 3 o’clock. It houses the self-winding P-331 Manufacture Calibre, endowed with 42 hours of power reserve, and water resistant up to 50 meters. The bridges adorned with a "Côtes de Genève" motif, are visible through the sapphire crystal case-back.
Perrelet Turbine Rooster, reference number Ref. A1097/2, is available in a numbered limited edition of 100 pieces. The watch is mounted on a black rubber bracelet and a steel folding clasp with black PVD coating and Perrelet logo.
