Urwerk presents the EMC Black, a watch powered by the world's first mechanical movement with electronic monitoring system.
Urwerk’s EMC stands for Electro Mechanical Control, which refers to the world’s first completely mechanical high-precision movement which enables its owner to monitor its timing rate. In other words, the EMC allows the wearer to adjust the timing so that it suits his daily rhythm and lifestyle. By simply turning a screw on the back, the user can activate the movement’s precision rate and monitor the movement’s timing rate via completely novel performance indicator display, delta/δ, which is positioned indication in the top left corner. It actually shows the instantaneous rate of the movement, and shows whether it runs fast or slow. Until now, this kind of information has been the reserved for the professional watchmakers…

Urwerk introduced the EMC watch for the first time about a year ago. At that time, EMC was announced as a completely new concept watch, which is fully developed in Urwerk's U-Research Division – the brand’s ‘experimental laboratory. Inspired by a Witschi instrument, which is a test and measurement tool used in watch construction and repair service, the EMC allows its owners to adjust the timing of their watches, so that it suits their own personal rhythm. The EMC system - an electronic brain of the wristwatch - is, at the same time, completely dependent on the 100% mechanical movement.
Electronic in a 100% mechanical watch is possible thanks to the innovative solution that relies on precision optics (light) to measure the precision of a movement up to the accuracy of more than 110 microseconds. The optical sensor, found in this watch, captures the exact rate of oscillation of a specially designed balance wheel, over a period of 3 seconds, and compares it with the 16,000,000-hertz electronic oscillator, which gives the EMC’s reference timing rate. The difference is shown via the delta/δ indicator, and expressed as a gain or loss of a second per day of the timing rate (for the example, a 0.0000014 variation is expressed as a variation of a second per day).

The owner can use these information to better understand how external factors, such as positional changes, temperature and pressure, may influence the timing of the movement. Furthermore, it extends the function of the regulator to the wearer itself, who can correct these timing variations by adjusting the rate of the timing…

Urwerk EMC Black is made of DLC treated titanium and steel, and it is quite robust and masculine as it measures 43mm in width, 51mm in length, and 15.8mm in height. The surface of the case features shot-blasting finishing, while the watch face reveals a deconstructed dial with circular and crescent-shaped sub dials for hours, minutes, seconds; precision delta indicator, and power reserve.

The mechanism beneath the dial is the UR-EMC caliber, which is completely envisioned and produced by Urwerk. It features a Swiss lever escapement, the ARCAP P40 linear balance wheel coupled to the optical sensor, and the vertically mounted double mainspring barrels, connected in series. The movement beats at 28,800 vph and provides about 80 hours of power reserve. Its generously decorated surfaces are partially revealed through the sapphire crystal case-back, allowing the wearer to admire Côtes de Genève engravings, snailing, micro-bead blasting, and polishing.

URWERK UR-100 SpaceTime
Uwerk introduces the UR-100 SpaceTime model, a new philosophical watch that displays both time in hours and minutes, and space in the distance traveled. The watch belongs to Urwerk’s orbital hour satellites family, and yet it differs from the rest of the range in one significant way. The red-arrow-tipped minute hour pointer now passes beneath and between subsidiary dials, reappearing to display new astronomical indications: distance traveled on Earth and distance travelled by Earth. The dial reveals two indicators. The first one, located at...
Urwerk UR-111C Black Cobra
Urwerk extends its UR-111C Collection with a brand new iteration – the UR-111C Black Cobra. The model, which was introduced back in 2018 in two case materials, matte gunmetal steel and a classic steel version, is a part of the Special Projects collection that departs from Urwerk’s signature series of wandering-hour complications. The UR-111C features two different displays of the minutes on the rollers, jumping digital hours, and optically transmitted skeletonized seconds. The new, SF-inspired timepiece takes its design cues from the UR-CC1...
Urwerk UR-111C
Urwerk’s Special Projects collection welcomes a new addition, the highly original Urwerk UR-111C, a watch that abandons Urwerk’s signature theme of wandering-hour indications in favor of a completely unconventional display. With the new UR-111C, Urwerk aims to connect the wearer and his horological machine, to create a bond between a man and a mechanism. The watch becomes a part of its wearer, a tool that gives him information in return for energy. With this interesting concept in mind, Urwerk designed a special roller that is integrated...
