The house of Urwerk is back from Basel with two exciting new additions to its futuristic haute horlogerie range.
During the BaselWorld trade show, the famous watchmaking brand welcomed visitors in its Ramada hotel showroom, to unveil the brand new UR-210 Clou de Paris, and UR-105 Clockwork Orange timepieces. Both new creations represent a new take on Urwerk’s most coveted models. This time, the UR-210 and UR-105 have been subtly redesigned in terms of texture and color. While the UE-210 now brings your sense of touch into play, the UR-1o5 Clockwork Orange honors Anthony Burgess's iconic 1962 novel.
Urwerk UR-210 Clou de Paris, which is made of titanium and AlTiN-treated steel textile, features a robust, blackened case decorated with Clou de Paris motif, satin finished, or bead-blasted. The black textile strap of similar texture seems like it is morphing into the case, but the wearer can choose from many different strap options, and merge or contrast textures as he could with colors.
On the inside, the UR-210 Clou de Paris features the same Caliber UR-7.10, which beats at a frequency of 28,800v per hour, and provides 39 hours of power reserve. As noted many times before, Urwrks’s UR-210 highlights and monitors the symbiotic relationship between man and his mechanical timepiece. The watch is characterized by Urwerk’s recognizable time display, but with an interesting addition at 11 o’clock position - a world-first complication that indicates the winding efficiency over the last two hours. This personal indicator features red and green zone. When the wearer is relaxed, the indicator will be tending towards the red zone to indicate that the watch is not being wound enough by its automatic rotor, and is running on stored energy. When the wearer is active, the indicator will point towards the green zone, symbolizing that he is replenishing the watch with new energy.
Coupled with information provided by the power reserve indicator, the indicator of winding efficiency enables the wearer to intervene by adjusting the winding efficiency selector, which is located at the back of the watch. In this way, the wearer can choose whether to convert even the slightest movement into stored energy, to engage the rotor damping system, or to disable the automatic winding system and switch to manual winding.
The UR 105 Clockwork Orange is a fresh new colorful take on the Urwerk’s UR 105 model, famous for its wandering hour satellites. This interesting watch features the hidden carousel, which is responsible for the operation of the satellite hours. There are four aluminum satellites mounted on the own bronze/beryllium Geneva cross. Each of them completes four 120° turns in three hours before, between leaving the minutes arc and arriving again to display a new numeral. Each satellite indicates the time in both analogue and digital fashion, while the banana-shaped chapter reveals minutes painted with orange Super-LumiNova®.
The watch is powered by the 5.02 UR automatic winding movement, which is regulated by a double turbine. The movement, encased in a black PVD titanium case with black PVD steel bezel, beats at a frequency of 28,800 v/h and promises up to 48 hours of power reserve. Uwerk introduces the UR-100 SpaceTime model, a new philosophical watch that displays both time in hours and minutes, and space in the distance traveled. The watch belongs to Urwerk’s orbital hour satellites family, and yet it differs from the rest of the range in one significant way. The red-arrow-tipped minute hour pointer now passes beneath and between subsidiary dials, reappearing to display new astronomical indications: distance traveled on Earth and distance travelled by Earth. The dial reveals two indicators. The first one, located at...
