URWERK has brought together top craftsmen and skilled hands to glorify five unique timepieces

On the occasion of the 2014 Geneva Grand Prix d’Horlogerie, Urwerk’s EMC model was awarded first prizes in the “exceptional mechanism” and the “innovation” categories. This exceptional model, which set a new milestone in the world of watchmaking as the first and only mechanical watch in which the rate can be checked electronically, is now available in a special rendition decorated by the hands of the most skilled craftsmen. The latest version of the EMC – named the Pistol – is hand-decorated by Florian Güllert, who was in charge for the engraving, while Joséphine Morf and Sylviane took care of the leather work.
The case of Urwerk EMC Pistol is transformed into the work of art by Florian Güllert, who specializes in engraving firearms. “Engraving is a way of capturing light,” he explains, “It bares the metal and creates zones of shade. The metal is forcibly worked and astonishingly that is what makes it beautiful… You can compare engraving on metal with calligraphy, while hammer peening creates such subtle nuances that they cannot be reproduced exactly. Each mark you make is unique and definitive. That is the beauty of craftsmanship.” For this particular project, Florian Güllert chose scrolls and arabesques that would break up the rectilinear silhouette of the EMC. He even had to find special tools to employ the traditional method on the unusually hard steel used in the EMC case.
Martin Frei, co-founder and chief designer at Urwerk, is responsible for the distinctive architecture of the EMC Pistol. He is the one that envisioned a watch that showcases contrasting styles. The minimalist top part of the case features raised engravings, with smooth and satin-finished surfaces of the upper part highlighting the decorative work of the lower section.
Finally, the highest-grade leather strap was made in the little workshops of the Place Simon-Goulart in Geneva’s old watchmaking district of Saint Gervais - the Portalès leather company. Joséphine Morf, and Sylviane, her co-worker, have designed five unique straps for the EMC Pistol. As Joséphine explains: “URWERK’s order at first took us by surprise… They wanted a part of the skin that we very seldom use because it is in relief. The straps we made are truly three dimensional with a series of small ridges... “We have made five unique straps, which in my view are among the finest created by our company.”
Finally, the watchmaker Felix Baumgartner is responsible for the ingenious mechanism of the Urwerk EMC. This model represents it Holy Grail. Based on Urwerk’s in-house movement, the mechanism is transformed in an electronic device that monitors the sprung balance at its heart. As a result, the owner can adjust the timepiece by himself, to achieve the best possible performance. This mechanical watch features a control panel with four separate dials. Located at 2 o’clock position is the large seconds dial, to its left, at 10 o’clock is the rate indicated n seconds a day. Below, at 8 o’clock is the 80-hour power-reserve indicator, while the hours and minutes are shown conventionally by hands at 5 o'clock.
All five unique pieces of the Urwerk the EMC Pistol series are made from titanium and steel. The watches measure 43mm in width, and 51mm in length, and they are water resistant to 30 meters. The cases accommodate manually wound Caliber UR-EMC movement, which beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The movement is finished in the finest tradition of watchmaking, with Geneva stripes, snailing, shot-blasted and brushed finishes. A sapphire crystal on the case-back reveals the astonishing clash of classic finish and futuristic performance.
The price for Urwerk EMC Pistol is 135,000 CHF. For more information, please visit Urewrk’s website.

URWERK UR-100 SpaceTime
Uwerk introduces the UR-100 SpaceTime model, a new philosophical watch that displays both time in hours and minutes, and space in the distance traveled. The watch belongs to Urwerk’s orbital hour satellites family, and yet it differs from the rest of the range in one significant way. The red-arrow-tipped minute hour pointer now passes beneath and between subsidiary dials, reappearing to display new astronomical indications: distance traveled on Earth and distance travelled by Earth. The dial reveals two indicators. The first one, located at...
Urwerk UR-111C Black Cobra
Urwerk extends its UR-111C Collection with a brand new iteration – the UR-111C Black Cobra. The model, which was introduced back in 2018 in two case materials, matte gunmetal steel and a classic steel version, is a part of the Special Projects collection that departs from Urwerk’s signature series of wandering-hour complications. The UR-111C features two different displays of the minutes on the rollers, jumping digital hours, and optically transmitted skeletonized seconds. The new, SF-inspired timepiece takes its design cues from the UR-CC1...
Urwerk UR-111C
Urwerk’s Special Projects collection welcomes a new addition, the highly original Urwerk UR-111C, a watch that abandons Urwerk’s signature theme of wandering-hour indications in favor of a completely unconventional display. With the new UR-111C, Urwerk aims to connect the wearer and his horological machine, to create a bond between a man and a mechanism. The watch becomes a part of its wearer, a tool that gives him information in return for energy. With this interesting concept in mind, Urwerk designed a special roller that is integrated...
Urwerk UR-210 Dubai
On the occasion of the Dubai Watch Week, hosted by luxury watch retailers Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, Urwerk introduces a unique and exceptional timepiece expertly engraved by the incredibly talented Florian Güllert. The one-of-a-kind UR-210 is inspired by the city of Dubai or, more precisely, by Felix Baumgartner’s personal impressions of the city. The strong and often contradictory sensations, stirred by Dubai’s extravagant skyscrapers, highways, luxury cars, and the surrounding desert, have been translated into a unique new watch. In Baumgartner’...
Urwerk The UR-105 CT Streamliner

Urwerk and Laurent Ferrier Arpal One for Only Watch 2017
The house of Laurent Ferrier has joined its forces with Urwerk to create a unique piece of work to be sold at the Only Watch auction, benefitting the battle against Duchenne muscular dystrophy. For the first time ever, two watchmaking companies grounded on the opposite ends of the stylistic spectrum have come together to create one-of-a-kind timepiece that blends time-honored traditions with futuristic vision. The result of this intriguing partnership is the Arpal One timepiece, which comes in a curved, almost aerodynamic case made from an excl...
Urwerk the Raging Gold UR-105TA
Urwerk has just released yet another version of its avant-garde UR-105 model. This extraordinary timepiece, which unites all of Urwerk’s iconic technical and aesthetic codes, is now offered in an ultimately luxurious, red gold version, paying a subtle tribute to Martin Frei’s love of gold. This is how Frei, Urwerk’s co-founder and chief designer, explained the inspiration behind the Raging Gold UR-105: “There’s always this little inner voice that reminds me how much I love this metal. Beyond the march of technology, changes in fashion, new func...
Urwerk UR-106 Black Pink Lotus
In its most recent iteration, the UR-106 model is a pink lotus with a dark side. It turns a shadowy carousel encased in a matte black case, and placed under a delicate arch of deep black diamonds. The new Black Pink lotus conveys Urwerk’s recognizable avant-garde spirit. The original indications and complications illustrate that same creativity and complexity that Urwerk has been known for for almost 20 years now. The UR-106 Black Pink Lotus is built around Urwerk‘s signature satellite hours indication, based on the wandering hours principle...
Urwerk UR-1o5 Clockwork Orange and UR-210 Clou de Paris
During the BaselWorld trade show, the famous watchmaking brand welcomed visitors in its Ramada hotel showroom, to unveil the brand new UR-210 Clou de Paris, and UR-105 Clockwork Orange timepieces. Both new creations represent a new take on Urwerk’s most coveted models. This time, the UR-210 and UR-105 have been subtly redesigned in terms of texture and color. While the UE-210 now brings your sense of touch into play, the UR-1o5 Clockwork Orange honors Anthony Burgess's iconic 1962 novel. Urwerk UR-210 Clou de Paris, which is made of titanium...
Urwerk UR-106 Lotus exclusively made for women
Remaining faithful to Urwerk’s technically advanced, complex, and classy style, the UR-106 Lotus features the brand’s emblematic satellite hours complication. This time, the satellite system had been revised. It induces three satellites, each with four hour numerals that sweep along the minute scale in an analogue and digital indication of time. A moonphase indicator, with the lapis lazuli of the moon, completes the watchmakers’ vision. As master watchmaker Felix Baumgartner explained, the Urwerk team wanted to create something clean, which was...
